SANSHIN Hungary Ltd.

SANSHIN Hungary Ltd., a subsidiary of the Japanese company SANSHIN Electric Co. Ltd. working in the field of developing and manufacturing electronic products appeared on the Hungarian market in April 1999. The assembly shop and offices were constructed in Nagyk?rös within 7 months as a greenfield investment, so that production could start at the beginning of December. The Nagyk?rös plant is the only unit of the Japanese company outside of Asia and provides for the complete European market. The company manufactures electronic equipment primarily for the car industry (car radio parts), as well as telephone and fax parts. Parts used in manufacturing currently all arrive from Asia, but they are planning to contact domestic vendors as well. They had a staff of 80 at the start of 2000, but currently have a staff of more than 400 working in two shifts. During the second half of 2000, the second shop with a size equaling the first one was completed, and production is currently running at full capacity.

The Challenge

The company management set the goal of having a live system as soon as possible. As the factory was a greenfield investment, business processes (financial, logistics, and manufacturing) are not yet clearly defined. The task set for both parties was to find the most suitable solution as soon as possible, and shape the MFG/PRO system so as to reflect these processes. In addition to Japanese managers, Hungarian staff carried out daily activities, so the language of the project was partly English, and most project documents were created in two languages.

Implementation had to be carried out simultaneously with a dynamic rollout of manufacturing and continuous introduction of new products, posing a big challenge to both parties.

Answering to the Challenge

The need for the system was especially burning when managing logistic processes, and as a result, ISYS-ON applied an accelerated implementation methodology. Based on the agreement signed in January 2000, experts implemented a complete MFG/PRO system with 8 users, but as the company grew, SANSHIN management projected further upgrades.

MFG/PRO 8.5 is deployed at the company with full functionality. Production management, logistics, finance, and also Hungarian finance, material assets, wages, and Optio document formatting system help company administration on a daily basis. In the meantime, an electronic entry system was also implemented in addition to the introduction of MFG/PRO.

Results & Plans

The MFG/PRO system went live in August 2000. Each field has been gaining practice and confidence in using the system gradually. ISYS-ON supported the customized application with several developments. In addition to the original agreement, consultation days were organized to help Sanshin overcome the initial difficulties following the go live.
